The Myriad Difficulties of Intergalactic Census Taking

This was a big one!

And it was TONS of fun to draw.  I drew the bulk of it in the last 24 hours (6 pages to be exact!) and while it was hectic, it was also really great, and allowed me to concoct all sorts of fun creatures.  I also really enjoy drawing the little guy (named Adam) that stars in this pick-cha book.

This comic was inspired by my own life, as I have recently become a census taker.  It has led to some interesting scenarios, and is overall a nice job.  Basically, as I wander around to various houses this comic idea came to me!

In more important news, I’m going to be at the Maine Comics Arts Festival this Sunday in Portland!  I’m going to have a table with some friends of mine, selling printed copies of both this and OF WHAT KIND.  It should be a blast, so come on by!

And make sure to tell me what ya think of this comic in the COMMENTS!

I drew this big picture where all these rough and tumble dudes are roughin and tumblin. What are they fighting about? We will never know because jelly cube will clearly be the only one left standing at the end, and homeboy don’t talk much.

See if you can find the following bad dudes:

      Hogrust the warrior swine king

      Chitinor, champion of the antmen

Anacondrix, chief of the guild of serpent assassins

      Finn, human boy

Emperor Borgrimm, underking of the fire giant subterranean nations

      Douglas

      The indefatigable zombie puncher

Captain Maru, cat man mercenary of one thousand bard songs.

FINNEUS GILLDROX, ARCHMAGE OF THE SUNKEN TOWER

      Xanthorp, space owl

Pierre Morticus, warrior lich and necromancer king of the silent legion.

Big ass hill giant with a bunch of eyes

Kangarax the twice-living, pharaoh of the black sands

      Jelly cube

Have fun! I’ma colour it later.

    • Joann Sfar is one of my favorite living cartoonists, author of such awesome works as The Rabbi’s Cat and Vampire Loves, as well as co-author of the amazing, incredible DUNGEON series.

So I can’t wait to see this documentary all about his career.  Check out the little scene here.  INSPIRING STUFF.

I love this cartoon, it’s one of the things that inspired me to start drawing seriously.
